All-female four-piece Friedberg have made a powerful return today with their brand new single, ‘haha,’ produced by the acclaimed Dan Carey (Hot Chip, Fontaines D.C., Wet Leg). Released via Clouds Hill, the track is available to stream now and comes hot on the heels of the band's announcement that they will support LCD Soundsystem for four nights at London's iconic O2 Academy Brixton, from June 12th to 15th.

At a concise two minutes and one second, ‘haha’ marks a bold and compelling departure from Friedberg’s established alt-rock sound. The single dives headfirst into electronic beats, distorted textures, and a raw, industrial edge. It's a moody, abrasive, and tightly controlled burst of chaos that undeniably signals a fearless evolution in their musical direction.

The accompanying music video, directed by Anthony Dickenson, is a descent into a dark, hallucinatory realm where tribal-infused contemporary dance meets surreal suspense. Set within a shifting dreamscape of shadows, smoke, and glitching light, the video features fleeting, unsettling flashes of frontwoman Anna, adding to its disorienting allure.

Speaking on the new single, Friedberg's Anna shared, "We were just messing around at Dan’s studio, started up the drum machine, I started singing the vocal line and then Dan hit that synth in the chorus, and we both looked at each other like, ‘Ok, that’s it…’ It came together so quick and I just love when that happens." She added that the song "spiralled from there — into this thing about curated perfection, someone who’s mastered the mirror but lost the plot."

This new release follows a triumphant 2024 for the band, which saw them drop their critically acclaimed debut album, Hardcore Workout Queen. Publications like The Observer lauded their "coolest dance punk this side of LCD Soundsystem," while The Telegraph praised their "thrilling blend of sardonic alt-rock and fierce riffs." CLASH highlighted their "relentless momentum and global presence," cementing their status as a formidable force.

Friedberg's dynamic live performances also garnered significant attention last year, with appearances at SXSW and Great Escape Festival, a US tour with Giant Rooks, and support slots for Big Special and Placebo. Their upcoming shows supporting LCD Soundsystem are expected to further solidify their reputation as an unmissable live act.
