Belinda Carlisle announces new album 'Once Upon A Time In California' set for August release
05 June 2025
Belinda Carlisle, the iconic voice of the Go-Go's and a beloved solo artist, is set to transport listeners back to her formative years with the release of her new studio album, 'Once Upon A Time In California,' due out August 29, 2025, via the Demon Music label. This deeply personal collection features ten new studio tracks, including the lead single, "The Air That I Breathe," a fresh take on The Hollies' classic, which drops tomorrow, June 6th, pre-order here.
Recorded in Los Angeles, 'Once Upon A Time In California' was produced by Gabe Lopez, who previously collaborated with Carlisle on her 2017 album, 'Wilder Shores'. The album will be available across CD, vinyl (including picture discs), and digital formats, with pre-orders open now. Fans in the UK can also look forward to catching Carlisle live on her Heavenly Hits tour, running from September 5th to 13th, 2025.
Following the success of her 2023 EP 'Kismet' and the single "Big Big Love," this new album sees Carlisle embarking on a heartfelt tribute to the vintage pop culture that shaped her musical identity. Steeped in the spirit of her Californian upbringing, the collection celebrates a personal education in pop music, drawing on the magical sounds that reached her on the radio and cherished 45s.
Carlisle, a Golden State export herself with hits like "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" and "Our Lips Are Sealed," offers her distinctive vocal delivery to a curated selection of timeless tracks. The album opens with a stirring remake of the Burt Bacharach & Hal David gem "Anyone Who Had A Heart." Carlisle also pays respects to artists such as The Carpenters ("Superstar"), Gordon Lightfoot ("If You Could Read My Mind"), and Harry Nilsson ("Everybody's Talking"). While three tracks have appeared on previous collections, this marks the first time all ten reimagined songs are available on one album.
"I was born and raised in California at a time when music was an important part of Californian culture," Carlisle commented. "Listening to it brings back so many memories of a time and a California that doesn't really exist anymore. Here's to the California of my dreams.”
