Max Richter celebrates 10 Years of 'SLEEP' with monumental London shows and new album 'Sleep Circle'
05 June 2025
Celebrated composer Max Richter today announced a monumental celebration for the tenth anniversary of his groundbreaking project, 'SLEEP'. This September, Richter will bring his immersive, all-night musical experience to London's iconic Alexandra Palace for its largest performances to date on Friday, September 5th and Saturday, September 6th. These will be his first 'SLEEP' performances in London since 2017.
Released in 2015 and co-conceived with his creative partner Yulia Mahr, 'SLEEP' is an 8 ½ hour exploration into the intersection of sound and the sleeping mind, utilizing subsonics and repetition to enhance slow wave sleep. It has become a culturally significant classical music project, transcending traditional concerts to become distinctive cultural events in iconic settings worldwide, including the Sydney Opera House and The Great Wall of China.
Richter describes the live experience as "unforgettable. The feeling of a community of strangers deeply connected through this music ritual is overwhelming, and like no other musical experience." Fans can secure their tickets via an exclusive presale starting June 10th, with general on-sale beginning June 12th.
In exciting tandem with these anniversary performances, Richter has also announced a brand new album, 'Sleep Circle,' set for release on Friday, September 5th. The first single, 'Dream 11 / Moth-Like Stars Pt.2,' is available now. 'Sleep Circle' offers a 90-minute hallucinatory journey into the hypnagogic state – the transition between wakefulness and sleep where dreams begin. This new recording, laid down at Studio Richter Mahr, reimagines sections of 'SLEEP' with a more traditional architecture, its 90-minute length mirroring a typical REM cycle. While 'SLEEP' guides listeners to a full night's rest, 'Sleep Circle' is designed as the perfect backdrop for moments of deep sleep, providing a 'mise-en-scene' for dreaming.
'Sleep Circle' is available for pre-order now, released digitally, on CD, and as a deluxe vinyl edition. Inspired by Byung-Chul Han’s ‘The Burnout Society’, 'SLEEP' was conceived as an antidote to modern life's relentless urgency. Its remarkable impact led it to become the first classical record to reach 1 billion streams, now boasting over 2.2 billion. Richter's catalogue, spanning classical orchestrations and modern electronic elements, has amassed over three billion streams to date, solidifying his status as one of the most influential composers of his generation.
