The Farm return with catchy new single 'That Feeling'
15 May 2025
Resurgent indie-dance pioneers The Farm are back with another infectious slice of their signature sound, "That Feeling," the latest track to be unveiled from their highly anticipated album, Let The Music (Take Control). Set for release on Friday, June 20th via Modern Sky, this marks the band's first full-length offering in over three decades, reigniting the spark that powered iconic hits like "All Together Now" and "Groovy Train."
"That Feeling," only the third taste of the upcoming album, sees the Liverpool five-piece delve into themes of delusion and disinformation with their trademark blend of driving beats and insightful lyrics. Inspired in part by guitarist Keith Mullin's encounter with funk legend Nile Rodgers and vocalist Peter Hooton's observations on the current global climate, the track navigates disillusionment to ultimately arrive at a place of hope.
Hooton explains the song's core message: "The idea behind this song is trying to get into the heart and mind of someone who thinks they are the future of the world. People are more easily duped by false narratives in this day and age, falling into the obvious traps. We need to better understand each other to work out why."
The Farm's rich history, spanning five decades, is deeply woven into British pop culture. Beyond their chart-topping albums and influential music, the band has left its mark on fashion and film, with bassist Carl Hunter directing the acclaimed 2018 film Sometimes Always Never starring Bill Nighy, and drummer Roy Boulter earning a BAFTA nomination for his screenwriting work.
Let The Music (Take Control), produced by Mike Cave (known for his work with The Charlatans and Bloc Party) in Liverpool, signifies a creative resurgence for the original "heyday" lineup. The album was spurred by renewed inspiration and the enthusiastic response to live performances of new material, further fueled by the addition of their 2024 single "Feel The Love" to the BBC Radio 2 playlist.
Preceding "That Feeling" are the previously released singles "Forever And Ever" and "Moment In Time," offering further glimpses into the album's future-facing sound. This new collection follows their 1994 US-only release Hullabaloo and their seminal UK No.1 album Spartacus, which gifted the world the enduring anthems "All Together Now" and "Groovy Train."
While their studio output may have been on hold, The Farm have remained a vibrant live presence, and they are set to continue touring throughout the release of Let The Music (Take Control) and into the summer. Confirmed UK and Ireland dates for 2025 include appearances at Donny Fest, Forest Festival, The Darlington Arena, and Manchester's Adored 2025.
Completed by Steve Grimes on guitar and keys, The Farm occupy a unique space in British music history, alongside the Stone Roses and Happy Mondays, as pioneers of the indie-dance crossover sound. Their enduring relevance and insightful commentary continue to resonate with audiences, making their long-awaited new album a highly anticipated event.
