GRAMMY®-nominated singer-songwriter JP Saxe returns with Articulate Excuses, the first installment of a two-part album, out now via Arista Records. The release is accompanied by his newest single, the wistfully clever “I Wanna Move to Brooklyn,” a track that captures the yearning for reinvention and romanticized escape in a city full of dreams and indie coffee shops.

Following 2023’s A Grey Area, Articulate Excuses dives even deeper into Saxe’s inner world. It’s a sonically rich, emotionally vulnerable collection that touches on themes of grief, masculinity, shame, self-awareness, and nostalgia. “It’s about hiding from myself... apologizing for myself... and re-finding parts of myself I didn’t think I was allowed to be,” Saxe explains.

The EP includes previously released singles “Safe” and “Smartphone Make Me Dumb,” alongside new tracks like “Baddie with a Vape Addiction” and “Let a Ginger Make You Cry,” blending introspection with tongue-in-cheek flair. Malay (Frank Ocean, Lorde) co-produces standout moments, including the R&B-laced “Safe,” which marked Saxe’s first solo release after touring globally through 2023 and 2024.

Saxe made the creative decision to split the full-length album into two parts, citing both thematic separation and the challenge of listener attention spans. “Even I have trouble listening to 14 songs in a row,” he jokes. “So how could I expect someone else to?”

Saxe’s return builds on a career of confessional, detail-rich songwriting that’s earned acclaim from Rolling Stone, Billboard, and Forbes. With Articulate Excuses, he not only shares more of himself but invites listeners to do the same — with honesty, humor, and a heart wide open.

Articulate Excuses is available now on all major streaming platforms. Part two is expected later this year.
