The Pale White unleash explosive single ‘Woolly Thunder’ as new album ‘The Big Sad’ drops
18 April 2025
Wallsend rockers The Pale White have released their searing new single ‘Woolly Thunder’ today, arriving alongside their long-awaited second album The Big Sad, out now via End of the Wall Recordings.
Fresh from their TV debut on Sunday Brunch, the band’s latest offering crackles with raw energy. ‘Woolly Thunder’ is a riff-heavy, fuzz-drenched storm of a track, combining grit and groove in perfect measure. “I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again… I’ve said it before,” frontman Adam Hope quips, citing both his dad’s old joke and a nod to the bizarre idea of resurrecting the woolly mammoth. The result is as rebellious as it is irreverent—pure Pale White.
The single launches alongside The Big Sad, a 13-track juggernaut that sees the trio take complete creative control. Mixed by Tom Dalgety (Pixies, Royal Blood), the album reflects personal and artistic rebirth, shaped by pandemic-era loss and change. “This is the sound of a band that got tired of slamming the fuzz pedal to tick the ‘rock’ box,” the band says. “We dare to be something new.”
Honest, hopeful, and at times devastating, The Big Sad trades in soaring melodies, introspective lyrics, and, yes, the occasional furniture-flipping riff. With themes of renewal and vulnerability, it showcases a more mature Pale White—still potent, but more expansive than ever before.
Speaking on the album’s release, the band reflects: “There was a time it felt like this album wouldn’t happen. But this is who we are now. Not yesterday’s band, maybe not tomorrow’s—but today’s.”
The trio—Adam Hope (vocals/guitar), brother Jack Hope (drums), and Dave Barrow (bass)—will take their new material on the road next week, joining Pixies on a run of sold-out European dates starting 23rd April in Luxembourg.
With The Big Sad, The Pale White not only reaffirm their place in the North East’s buzzing music scene—they stake their claim as one of the UK’s most exciting rock bands right now.
