12 April 2025
To celebrate four decades since its original release, Dire Straits’ iconic 1985 album Brothers In Arms will be reissued on 16th May 2025 in multiple new formats through UMC/EMI. The 40th Anniversary Edition includes a 1LP vinyl, 5LP Deluxe box set, 3CD Deluxe edition, and a Super Deluxe Blu-ray audio disc. Pre-order here.
Originally released on 17th May 1985, Brothers In Arms became one of the highest-selling albums of all time, featuring hits such as Money For Nothing, Walk Of Life, Brothers In Arms, So Far Away, and Your Latest Trick. It has sold over 30 million copies globally and holds 14x Platinum certification in the UK alone. The record earned multiple Grammy Awards and was named Best British Album at the BRITs. Dire Straits were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.
Produced by Mark Knopfler and Neil Dorfsman, the album was recorded at AIR Studios in Montserrat and the Power Station in New York. The band’s line-up at the time featured Knopfler (guitar/vocals), John Illsley (bass), Alan Clark and Guy Fletcher (keyboards), and drummers Terry Williams and Omar Hakim.
The 1LP version mirrors the original 1985 abridged vinyl, while the Deluxe editions feature the full album and an unreleased live show from the San Antonio stop on the 1985 world tour. That tour included 248 performances across 117 cities, including Live Aid in London.
Deluxe box sets include a 16-page booklet with new interviews by Paul Sexton and exclusive art cards. The Blu-ray edition features a comprehensive suite of mixes, including 2023 Dolby Atmos and the 1985 original stereo mix.
