Triple threat powerhouse Cynthia Erivo, the GRAMMY®, Tony®, and Emmy® Award-winning artist and three-time Academy Award® nominee, is set to release her anxiously-awaited sophomore solo album, "I Forgive You," on June 6th via Verve Records/Republic Records.
Erivo is building anticipation for the full-length release by dropping the first single, "Worst Of Me," out now. This new track offers a glimpse into a bold creative chapter for the acclaimed performer, who co-wrote every song on the upcoming album. "I Forgive You" promises to showcase the breadth and depth of Erivo's captivating vocals as she delves into a personal and poignant journey through themes of romance, heartbreak, love, forgiveness, rebirth, and new beginnings.
This new era was initially teased with the release of "Replay," co-penned with Justin Tranter (known for his work with Selena Gomez and Lady Gaga). The track has already garnered millions of streams and critical acclaim, with Billboard noting its exploration of "the emotional rollercoaster of being human" and ELLE hailing it as "groundbreaking." ESSENCE also recognized its potential chart impact.
Earlier this year, Erivo received an Academy Award® nomination for "Best Actress" for her widely praised portrayal of Elphaba in the blockbuster film Wicked, further cementing her status as a multifaceted talent. She also delivered a show-stopping performance on the Oscars stage.
"I Forgive You," Erivo's sophomore effort, is described as a tenderhearted and vulnerable 20-track LP, offering an intimate testimony of her life and a plea for open-hearted understanding. The album is thoughtfully divided into four sections – a breakup, something new, the deepening of a connection, and acceptance – each separated by haunting vocal interludes. Musically, the album blends a diverse range of influences, including pop, R&B, folk, Britpop, hip-hop, and gospel, promising a deeply personal and resonant listening experience. Erivo's willingness to explore her most vulnerable moments positions "I Forgive You" as a significant and compelling artistic statement in 2025.
