Afro Nation, the world’s largest Afrobeats festival and the heart of a global cultural movement, has announced the first two LIT Stage headliners for 2025 today. Going all out for the fifth year anniversary edition in Portugal, Burna Boy and Tems will both be heading to the beach in Portimão between 9th to 11th July 2025!
Burna Boy returns home to Afro Nation next summer, after a year away spent collecting accolades and smashing records for African artists around the world. From performing on Glastonbury’s Pyramid stage to filling stadiums and achieving a number 1 album in the UK, Burna Boy’s unbeatable live show is always in the highest demand. Who better to mark the fifth year anniversary at Afro Nation Portugal than the African Giant, who has been a part of the journey every step of the way. Burna Boy was there at the birth of the movement on the beach in 2019. He was there for the moving post-pandemic return of the festival in 2022. He was also there, flying the flag with Afro Nation in Ghana, Miami and Detroit as part of his road to world domination. Burna Boy’s headline show at Afro Nation Portugal will be yet another special moment to remember.
No stranger to the history books herself and an equally pioneering voice for Afrobeats and the Nigerian Alté sound around the world, Tems will be making her long-awaited debut as Afro Nation Portugal headliner in 2025. She stands as the first female African artist to win a Grammy Award and top the Billboard Hot 100. Breakout success followed a feature on one of Wizkid’s all time biggest hits, ‘Essence’, before the Lagos native put herself in league with world’s most influential female artists, Beyoncé and Grace Jones, when they came together on ‘MOVE’ in 2022. Riding high off the back of this year’s acclaimed album Born in the Wild, which features tracks with Asake and J Cole, Tems is already earning her title as the voice of a generation. Her very first Afro Nation headline show next July simply cannot be missed.
The world's biggest amapiano stage, Piano People, will also make its return to the beach to showcase all the eclectic sounds the people know and love. The Piano People line up news is coming soon!
Driven by culture and for the culture, Afro Nation has been uniting the diaspora since 2019, celebrating the rich tapestry of music, fashion, food, and dance with a growing community from over 160 countries worldwide. With unforgettable festival experiences spanning three continents, Afro Nation continues to elevate and showcase the essence of African culture on a global stage.
Next summer, Afro Nation will celebrate its fifth anniversary in style, taking the one-of-a-kind festival experience to the next level again. It has become a dynamic platform that elevates African music on the global stage, pushing boundaries and reshaping the live music landscape. Afro Nation is not just transforming entertainment; it's propelling African culture to new heights like never before.
