About The Artist
Gideon Foster is not your typical singer-songwriter. Based in Yorkshire, UK, he blends a philosophical outlook on life with a distinctive sound that defies conventional genre constraints. Foster's musical journey began later in life compared to many of his peers; he did not produce his first song until his mid-40s. However, since then, he has been unstoppable, releasing numerous singles, an EP, and his debut album, 'Prophecy.'

'Prophecy' is more than just an album; it is a musical documentation of Foster's journey and the life-changing spiritual awakening that inspired him to start writing songs. Accompanied by a short story titled 'Walking with Mae,' the album offers a rich, multifaceted experience that complements his music. Foster's earlier works have garnered recognition in various online publications, with his track "Up on the Hill" being featured in Rolling Stone Brazil.

Foster's love for music has led him down various roads, each named after different genres, from which he has drawn inspiration without allowing himself to be constrained by them. This approach has given him the freedom to experiment and evolve his sound organically, resulting in a unique musical style that resonates deeply with his audience.

With "Come The Rain," Gideon Foster continues to push the boundaries of his artistry, offering listeners a deeply personal and spiritual experience. The single not only reflects his own journey of spiritual enlightenment but also serves as an invitation for others to explore and embrace the unknown in their own lives.

So firstly, how would you describe your sound?
I would say my sound draws influence from many different places , I’ve not really set my sights on being anything specific other than just me and ‘me’ has very varied tastes . If I had to pin it down I would say it’s kind of Pop/Rock but I veer musically towards something more emotional and lyrically I like to produce songs that are thought provoking.

We love ‘Come The Rain’ - what’s the main message behind the track?
Thanks so much ! It’s really about letting go , I had an event in my life called a spiritual awakening which causes all sorts of changes in your life and really after a while you realise that the old ways of doing things where you felt you had control don’t work anymore and you have to accept where life takes you , trouble is you can’t see where you’re going ! But as humans we can find that really frustrating , so you have to learn blind faith . So the song is really that letting go of what we thought we knew and embracing the unknown , not to say we don’t have expectations but they are more general , like just to be happy , that’s my kingdom !

Do you have to be in a certain mood to write a song?
Yeah for me personally I have to be peaceful which I am naturally but songs really arrive when they arrive for me , most of my ideas have been first thing in a morning as I don’t need an alarm I wake up with the sun and I find it very calm at that time , those random words and tunes you wake up to become songs !

Who are your three biggest musical inspirations?
Arghh I can never answer this question because I’m getting on a bit now and I’ve listened to so much great music over the years . I tend to think back of the albums I’ve listened to over and over again and would say I loved Simon and Garfunkel when I was younger , then there is a guy called Scott Matthew’s who made an album called Passing Stranger which I love and then I listened to Folklore by Taylor Swift on repeat walking over the hills near me . I think those three really inspired me to start in the first two instances and keep going with the last .

Who is the best band you've ever seen play live?
I saw Keane when they were just becoming known and that stands out for me , amazing voice and emotional songs .

What’s the toughest part of the industry?
I think the toughest thing is really getting your music out there making it and playing it is the easy part , but then you’ve got to get people to listen to it .

What’s in store for you for the rest of 2024?
I’m recording a second album which is coming along well and ‘Come The Rain’ is from that so really I’m just concentrating on that and trying to get it finished . Other than that who knows , hopefully live a little , the last few years have been really full on so I’ll try and smell the flowers along the way .
