The London Music Fund is delighted to present an evening featuring saxophonist and broadcaster Jess Gillam MBE and friends on 7th May 2024 at St John’s Smith Square, 7pm. Hosted by fellow saxophonist and broadcaster, the phenomenal YolanDa Brown OBE, the concert is a joyful celebration of talented young musicians from London Music Fund’s Scholarship Programme.
Established in 2011, the London Music Fund is an independent charity with the Mayor of London as Patron. Winner of ‘Outstanding Musical Initiative’ at the 2021 Music & Drama Education Awards, the London Music Fund’s mission is to transform under-served communities by enabling children to access high-quality music education.
London Music Fund works in partnership with London’s 30 Music Education Hubs, and with other education and music providers across the capital. The fund’s reach is extensive, enabling their vision that every child who demonstrates significant musical ability, enthusiasm and commitment to learning an instrument is given the opportunity to develop their potential.
Since 2011:
• It has invested more than £4.2 million to music education in the capital.
• Awarded 832 four-year Scholarships across all 32 London boroughs, 65% of which have
been given to children from Black, Asian and ethnically diverse backgrounds.
• Funded almost 80 inspirational projects with professional arts organisations, ensembles and
venues.
• Its work has directly involved more than 12,000 young musicians, and almost 50,000 others
have benefitted by attending concerts, workshops and taster sessions.
Host YolanDa Brown OBE, Ambassador for the London Music Fund, said:
"I am continually inspired by the LMF's commitment to nurturing talent and providing opportunities for musical growth. Music is not just an art form; it's a vital tool for personal development, offering a unique avenue for expression, creativity, and connection. Let's continue to champion the LMF, so every child in London has the opportunity to discover their musical voice and potential.”
Jess Gillam MBE, Ambassador for the London Music Fund, said:
"The London Music Fund recognise and celebrate the power of music as whole - they don’t just teach young people how to play instruments (although that is also done brilliantly!), they also teach focus on collaboration, communication skills and creative thinking. I'm honoured to be part of this incredible initiative."
