Liverpool duo King Hannah (Hannah Merrick and Craig Whittle) have today released their new single ‘Davey Says’, the second track taken from their upcoming album Big Swimmer (due for release on 31st May via City Slang). The record was produced by Ali Chant (PJ Harvey, Aldous Harding, Perfume Genius) and finds wide-screen inspiration from the band’s time on the road over the past few years across the US, with stints supporting Kurt Vile and Thurston Moore.

Today’s track release is accompanied by a video directed by the band’s own Craig Whittle. The visual is an homage to the 90s garage rock music videos the band love so much, the feeling of nostalgic coming-of-age compounded by the use of an old camcorder to capture the more dynamic parts of the video, harking back to home movies and long, endless days of band practices in your parents’ garage. The track is full of youthful optimism and sentiment, better expressed by the band’s vocalist Hannah Merrick –

“’Davey Says’ is our ode to 90s, American indie garage rock. We wanted this to be a raucous, fuzzy, light-hearted moment in the album, but to still have that feeling of ‘youcandoanything-ness’. The opening line ‘Meet me before the party, I don’t want to walk in alone’ is our attempt at that classic American 90’s imagery, of coming-of-age nostalgia and romance, of late warm summer nights when the future is draped in front of you.”

Today’s track release follows last month’s unveiling of the album title track, which included vocals from special guest Sharon Van Etten.

The band recently announced a run of UK and EU shows for September 2024 and today have announced further EU shows and a run of dates in the USA and Canada.
