Lyn Lapid teams up with Whethan on new single 'Cruise Control'
30 March 2024
21-year-old singer and songwriter Lyn Lapid recruits Gold-selling artist and producer Whethan for her new single “Cruise Control” out now. The electronic indie pop bop sets the stage for a new era from the songstress, and follows her recently released deluxe EP to love in the 21st century: the epilogue and subsequent headline tour across the US.
Lyn says, “‘Cruise Control’ is one of those songs that is fun and upbeat but lyrically is a bit darker than you’d expect. I’ve definitely had many moments where my brain goes into autopilot, and I’m mentally floating for extended periods of time. I feel like this affects me creatively where I’m making songs with no meaning, making videos with no substance, and outwardly displaying no sense of direction. Some people find this writer’s block or creative’s block, but this kind of feeling seeps into essentially all aspects of my life. This is what ‘Cruise Control’ is about, being in a state where you sometimes have no clue what you’re doing or what’s happening, and floating around. So this one goes out to all my dissociate-r’s out there.”
She continues, “Working with Whethan on this was so fun—the song originally sounded different, but he brought a whole new life to it, and I am so excited for everyone to finally hear it!”
Last summer, Lyn dropped her sophomore EP to love in the 21st century. The project drew inspiration from fan favorite Gen Z rom-coms, including To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and The Summer I Turned Pretty, and tells the story of the beginning, middle, and end of a relationship, capturing all the emotions of a first love. The EP includes fan favorite songs “poster boy,” “ok with it,” and “east side.” Sweety High described it as “a work of art from start to finish,” while Her Campus said, “Her sophomore EP is an alt pop sonic journey through the DMs-over-daisies state of modern love as seen through the eyes of its all-too-relatable protagonist. The indie songstress wears her heart on her sleeve for each track.”
Over the past year, Lyn Lapid’s star has only continued to rise, as Billboard declared, “[She] is proving her mettle as an artist in her own right.” In 2022, the songstress dropped her long-awaited debut EP The Outsider, which was dedicated to all “the outsiders” like herself and features fan favorites “In My Mind” (which is now Certified Gold), “I Guess That Was Goodbye,” and “The Outsider.” The EP received critical acclaim from the likes of Billboard, UPROXX, Hypebae, and more, with Atwood Magazine naming her an “exceptional artist-to-watch.” In 2023, Lyn teamed up with Canadian singer and songwriter Ruth B. on “do u really?” leading into the to love in the 21st century chapter. Not to mention, in addition to selling out her own headline tours, she toured across North America with Eric Nam, Ricky Montgomery, and Claire Rosinkranz. Surpassing over 700 million global streams across her catalog and amassing 5 million TikTok followers to date, Lyn Lapid has affirmed herself as a rising artist to watch.
