Love Fame Tragedy, the acclaimed solo project from Matthew “Murph” Murphy, guitarist and lead singer of alt-pop chart-toppers The Wombats, today releases his second album, Life Is A Killer, out now via Bright Antenna Records - listen here. Love Fame Tragedy will be embarking on a UK tour this May, where Murph will perform these tracks live for the very first time.

Even for a writer beloved by his fans for being so frank and open about his romantic failings and issues with drugs and depression, Life Is A Killer is Murph’s truest and most lyrically raw album to date, documenting one of the most difficult years of his life. As the now sober songwriter navigates his way through balancing life as a new father of two and touring the world with The Wombats, he explores the mental struggles of managing family life amid self-destructive excess.

Written in between London and LA, Murph enlisted the help of producers Jacknife Lee (U2, The Killers) and Mark Crew (Bastille, Rag N Bone Man, The Wombats) to push his sonic boundaries further than ever, with new sounds and even voice notes from his wife Akemi throughout this album. Speaking on the album, Murph says: “My touring and work schedule and my drinking got completely out of control, and it fucked me up basically. The album was written in the time where I was on this crazy descent.”

The new music video for ‘It’s Ok To Be Shallow’ is also out now, shot in Malibu and directed by Julia Friesland-Godfrey. Watch here.

Running from 13-16th May, Love Fame Tragedy’s four date UK tour will see Murph play headline shows at Manchester’s Gorilla, O2 Institute, Birmingham, and London’s Electric Ballroom, before headlining the Dork stage at The Arch for Brighton’s The Great Escape Festival. Tickets are available now and can be found on sale here.

Named after a revered Pablo Picasso exhibition at the Tate Modern, Love Fame Tragedy’s debut album Wherever I go, I Want To Leave garnered widespread support from the likes of NME, The Times, CLASH, Metro, Radio 1 and more, and was followed by The Wombats first ever UK #1 album, the acclaimed Fix Yourself, Not The World, and a worldwide tour that included a headline show at London's The O2.
