Today (Wednesday, 13th March) Apple Music continues to celebrate the most exciting talents and emerging artists in the UK music scene, with Griff stepping up to deliver a mesmeric performance for the March edition of Apple Music London Sessions.
Apple Music London Sessions gives artists the opportunity to perform a selection of their favourite tracks from their catalogue, as well as a cover version of their choice. For this special performance, the British pop sensation shows her star quality with a stunning set of performances, offering a pitch-perfect rendition of her new single ‘Miss Me Too’ and ‘Astronaut’, the self-produced and written power-ballad that features piano keys from Coldplay’s Chris Martin. The 23 year old also delivers an unmissable interpretation of Troye Sivan’s hit ‘One Of Your Girls’.
An artist in full control of her art, from writing, producing to design, and with an ability to create pop music that is both classically constructed and with multiple experimental flourishes, Griff is the perfect pop star of her generation. Since launching her music career from the confines of her bedroom, the 2021 BRITs Rising Star winner has become a global sensation. Releasing the lockdown mixtape ‘One Foot Front Of The Other’ in June of 2021, the project led to tours alongside some of today’s biggest artists — Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa and Florence + the Machine — in which Griff has refined both her sound and her sense of self. Last year saw the release of ‘Vertigo’ and the ‘vert1go vol.1’ EP soon followed, including the gorgeous ballad ‘Astronaut,’ which features songwriting-hero and touring partner Chris Martin of Coldplay on piano. Looking ahead, Griff is preparing to embark on her first headline tour of Europe, with latest EP ‘ver2igo vol 2’ set for release on April 5th.
To mark the session’s launch, Griff joined Rebecca Judd live in studio to discuss the experience recording the session and her decision to cover the Australian star Troye Sivan’s ‘One Of Your Girls’, off his 2023 album ‘Something To Give Each Other’.
Griff says: “It was really fun, you know. I mean, when we filmed this, ‘Miss Me Too’ wasn't out, so I was still getting used to singing it, and I really wanted to cover ‘One of Your Girls’. I think it's one of the best pop songs I've heard in a really long time, and I think Troye Sivan's just so good. So it was fun to cover it for sure.”
In a wide-ranging conversation, Griff also discusses the creative process that went into preparing for the live session, her love for Troye Sivan, what it’s like living on a tour bus and what it was like to tour with Coldplay.
