Legendary singer-songwriter and new music champion Tom Robinson has announced a major UK tour this October with the Tom Robinson Band, celebrating the iconic albums Power in the Darkness and TRB Two.

Robinson rose to prominence in the late 1970s with the Tom Robinson Band (TRB) which quickly gained notoriety for their raw energy and support for social causes.

TRB released a string of influential singles, including the landmark single 2-4-6-8 Motorway and the LGBTQ+ anthem Sing if You're Glad to be Gay; the latter famously banned by BBC Radio 1. Their debut album Power in the Darkness went Top 5 in the UK, confirming their status as one of the most important voices of their generation.

The demand for these shows in 2024 demonstrates the enduring relevance of Robinson's music. His songs - with their focus on justice, fairness and equality for all - resonate with audiences today more than ever.

Robinson says: “The original TRB split acrimoniously in 1979 and I've played our biggest songs (Up Against The Wall, Glad To Be Gay, 2-4-6-8 Motorway etc) pretty much ever since. But now it's time to revisit those album tracks again - many of which are all too topical 45 years on.... Alright Jack (privileged indifference), Man You Never Saw (state surveillance), Blue Murder (police violence), Too Good To Be True (social isolation)... As an encore we'll even be dusting off TRB's swansong - the disco single I wrote with Elton for Pride 79 - Never Gonna Fall In Love (Again). Tickets are selling fast, the band are on fire. I can't wait…”

“One of the bravest, most exhilarating bands of the late 70s.” Robin Denselow, The Guardian.

“For anyone growing up towards the end of the 1970s, the group most responsible for politically awakening the nation’s sixth-formers was the Tom Robinson Band.” Slimmy Richman, The Independent.

"Tom Robinson was absolutely on form at The Stables - the man is a beast and nearly 74. I hope if I make it to that age I have that much energy, wit and humour" @midmidweeker on X

“The band is tighter than the receptionist’s grip on your dentist’s diary” Nicholas David Burford, Slapmag.co.uk
