Having gone from strength-to-strength to achieve its status as one of the world’s greenest and most socially progressive events with a 50/50 male : female line up split, Norway’s Øya Festival is set to present its strongest ever bill in 2024 - a fitting way to commemorate its 25th anniversary.

Today, Øya announces an exciting new addition to the line up: the inimitable André 3000 who will play with a full live band on Thursday 8th August. His Oslo performance will be one of a very limited number of European dates this summer.

A trailblazing and singular talent, André 3000 is an artist who continues to defy expectations. As one half of Atlanta rap duo OutKast, André’s intricate bars and lyrical dexterity cemented his position as one of the world’s brightest rap talents. In 2023, over 15 years since OutKast’s last album was released, André 3000 dropped his debut solo album, New Blue Sun - an entirely instrumental, 87-minute album focused on his flute playing. Described by Pitchfork as ‘a devotional to new age, ambient jazz, and spiritual discovery’, New Blue Sun sees the heralded rapper enter a new chapter in his musical evolution.

André 3000 will join the likes of Pulp, PJ Harvey, Queens of The Stone Age, Gabrielle, Arca, Sampha, RAYE, Loyle Carner, The Smile, Yussef Dayes, Nabihah Iqbal, yunè pinku, Overmono and many more.

While many festivals are located far outside of a major city, you can reach Øya from the centre of Oslo in just 10 minutes: 98% of attendees arrive either by public transport or by walking or cycling to Tøyenparken. The location complements the festival’s sustainable ethos which have been acknowledged with wins at the European Festival Awards and A Greener Festival Awards. Examples of its environmentally responsible practices include running the event entirely free of fossil fuels, using renewable power for 98% of its requirements, and hand-sorting waste to ensure that 75% of it can be recycled.
