Dark and dreamy metal from the frozen north POLAR SEA bring melody, depth, and ice-cold intensity to original rock music, fusing gritty reflections and strong grooves.
Founded by songwriter Anatoly in 2020, Polar Sea are named after a reference in Fridtjof Nansen’s book ‘Fram Over Polhavet’ – depicting the dark, icy power of the ocean; a quality inherent in the ferocity and vastness of the music. At first, Anatoly found it difficult to find bandmates in his quiet little town of Hudiskvall, Sweden (population: 15,000). Intent on creating a band, inspired by the likes of Paradise Lost, Muse and Anathema, Anatoly crafted a home-studio and scoured the internet for talented collaborators to pursue his musical vision… gradually Polar Sea started to form.
“I used to work with a friend Henrik here in Hudiksvall but the other members are spread out all over the world… we all share the band’s ethos to make music that is dynamic and powerful whilst melodic and bittersweet, even melancholic. - AnatolyThe core principle of Polar Sea’s approach is “keep things interesting for yourself” and unites disparate talents from countries as far flung as Germany, Portugal, Russia, USA, Finland, Norway and of course, Sweden, all using their formidable skills to augment Anatoly’s songs (and his own guitars, bass, keys & programming).
The songs were mixed by Stefan Boman [Roxette, Opeth, Ghost] at Atlantis Studios in Stockholm.
Debut single ‘Leave Me Astray’ showcases Polar Sea’s powerful, polished sound: Dramatic, sweeping guitar licks give it a thematic tone of a harshness felt both in life and the natural elements. Nostalgic metal elements combine with modern alt-rock while deeply contemplative, philosophical lyrics present a mix of timeless wonder and self-reflection from time spent working in emergency trauma care…
“While working with trauma patients one can get the insight into the fragility of human being and delusiveness of many of the values of our society. One has to work with young persons who were full of life, but suddenly their lives are for ever changed. That is not that easy.” -
AnatolyPolar Sea have gained swift momentum in the rock-indie field due to favourable radio coverage from Sweden, UK and Brazil and playlists in Israel, UK, Spain, Portugal, Columbia, Italy and USA.
Expect to see the release of two new singles “Cold White Sea” and “Nothing Can Be Done” in 2024 followed by an EP, along with an original line of merchandise to be released alongside the music.
