Critically-acclaimed musician and songwriter Jamie Cullum has today re-released his multi-million selling, 2003 album Twentysomething, available on vinyl for the very first time via Decca and Universal Music.
Arriving exactly 20 years after it was first released (20th October 2003), the special 20th anniversary edition features the original album across three sides with a selection of non-album tracks, and session recordings on the fourth side, along with a bonus version of ‘Everlasting Love’, his 2004 UK No. 20 single, originally recorded for the Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason film soundtrack. Territories with a D2C offering are able to purchase a limited edition blue vinyl edition.
Speaking on the release, Jamie said: “Twentysomething is the album that completely changed my career and has given me the opportunity to record and perform all over the world for the last 20 years. I made it in thrall to all the great musicians and songwriters I was obsessed with, in multiple genres, with the curiosity of the aspiring jazz musician. It's been my guiding principle across my last 9 nine records. Twentysomething is a record still in the hearts of so many people who come to my shows and listen to my music. It's so moving to me to see people who came to my album launches as teenagers in 2003, now coming with their own music obsessed children. Singing all those songs we recorded in 3 weeks in the summer of 2002 in London. As a long time vinyl collector, I remember being sad that this record didn't come out as a bonafide record back in 2003 so I am thrilled that it is now. It was recorded to reel to reel analogue tape too so finally it is on the medium it was recorded for!!”
Twentysomething peaked at No. 3 on the UK Album Chart, spending almost a year on the Top 75, and reached No. 83 on the US Billboard 200. On the specialist charts, it made No. 1 on the UK Official Jazz & Blues Album Chart, and No. 3 on Billboard’s Top Jazz Albums chart. The album has since sold over 3 million copies worldwide, with over 1 million sales in the UK (3 x BPI ‘Platinum’ Award), and holds the honour of being the fastest selling jazz album in chart history, with its sales in 2003 leading to Jamie being the UK’s highest selling jazz artist in history.
