Today, rising star Abby Roberts returns with her brand-new track ‘Imposter Syndrome’ (listen here). The 80s inspired indie track was produced by Sammy Witte (Harry Styles’ co-writer and producer) and written by Abby with friend and collaborator Halsey. Today’s release marks the start of a new musical era for Abby Roberts as she takes herself and her music to the next level.

On the single’s release, 22-year-old Abby says: “When it came to making ‘Imposter Syndrome’ I was out on a writing trip in LA for the very first time and felt completely out of my depth being in rooms with incredibly talented producers, writers, and artists. I couldn’t help but feel like I didn’t deserve to be there. There was always this little voice telling me I was a fraud, I wasn’t good enough and hadn’t achieved enough to be worthy of the life I was experiencing. That day I had a session with Ash (Halsey) and confided in them on how I was feeling - and in the strangest coincidence Ash had also written down a bunch of lyric ideas on this feeling on her way to the studio that day, it felt like fate that ‘Imposter Syndrome’ was born. To channel these dark feelings inspiration was taken from 80s gothic music like The Cure but with a bit of a pop twist.”

The dreamy new single is Abby’s first musical release since laidback melancholic pop rock EP Ashes which included tracks 'Paramaniac', 'Pink Champagne', and 'Video Girl'. The latter premiered on Rolling Stone UK, who described it as “a powerful critique of social media's dark side” as the relatable video highlights the increasing social media pressure that many young people face.

Having recently performed at Romania’s Summer in the City 2023, Abby Roberts will be supporting Gus Dapperton on his EU/UK tour this Autumn, including a show at London’s Islington Assembly Hall on 8th November. Ticket information can be found here. With an impressive touring history so far, Abby has previously opened up for the likes of Halsey, Wolf Alice, Pale Waves, and The Marias, as well as impressing crowds at Brighton’s Great Escape Festival and Reading & Leeds Festival last year.

Hailing from Leeds, the 22-year-old make-up artist and musician began her career at the age of 11, turning out experimental artwork on her face for YouTube, Instagram and later TikTok, where she grew a dedicated following of over 16 million. It wasn’t until 2020, as Roberts was reaching burn out, that she returned to her dream of creating music. With help from producers Tim Woodcock and Noah Terefe, Abby built up her confidence within her songwriting and found her sound, blending her influences of Lana Del Rey, Mazzy Star, Nirvana, Radiohead, and Arctic Monkeys. Her laid-back melancholic debut EP Ashes gained approval from friend Halsey, who later asked Abby to support them on tour. Since then, as Abby’s career has rocketed, she has smashed performances at London’s Community Festival, Brighton’s Great Escape Festival, and Reading & Leeds Festival. Abby Roberts returns with dreamy 80s indie track ‘Imposter Syndrome’, co-created with Halsey, which perfectly presents her inventiveness, relatability, and star quality.
