Attention all Haring Fans: Gotta Have Rock and Roll's (GHRR) first art auction featuring an impressive collection.
GHRR is known for curating collections of hip-hop, rock and roll, and pop-culture memorabilia. However, this auction will showcase their stunning art pieces. You can expect to see works by renowned artists such as Haring, Warhol, Picasso, Basquiat, Banksy, Koons, and more. Art enthusiasts will surely be captivated by the original Keith Haring (Untitled) 1988 painting, which comes with a photo match and is personally signed by the artist. Measuring 10.75 x 13.75 inches, the painting is in excellent condition. Haring's signature, along with the inscription "For Pamela + Simon 1988, love K. Haring 88" and a symbol, can be found on the right side of the artwork.
Original artwork by Haring for a wedding invitation for Haring's personal friend, Pamela French.
In 1988, French was getting married and asked Keith Haring to create their wedding invitation. As a rule, Haring declined and said he would never do any artwork for a wedding invitation, even for a close friend. Disappointed, French made other arrangements for her wedding. However, shortly after, Haring surprised the French with an incredible design hand-done by him. The work depicts two figures joining together, the symbol of marriage. Overjoyed, French used this art to print her wedding invitations for her guests.
Haring presented the original artwork to her at the wedding as a gift for everything she had done for him. This artwork can be photo matched with various pictures from the wedding. This is the only known piece of Haring art sold with such solid provenance and a photo match. This image has recurred throughout Haring's career. What is evident in this drawing is Haring's ability to craft a narrative using his singular visual language: he evokes movement, joy, friendship, and simply the raw, honest energy of being alive. Further affirming their centrality to his body of work, similar iconography was featured in large-scale paintings and murals throughout Haring's accomplished career. The artwork also comes with the original envelope Keith hand-wrote and presented to French during her wedding.
Due to French's close connection to Haring, she was able to procure nine other Haring ephemera available as well! If you're a Haring fan, the auction has several pieces of his that you can't miss out on!
