Masked maestro Hozho takes listeners on an expedition into the sonic realms of his self-defined ‘Melodark’ groove with the new single ‘Wrong,’ sampled from the Portuguese DJ/producer’s forthcoming EP ‘Troubles In Paradise.’ Stream / Download here.

Flexing innate craftsmanship, Hozho instantaneously exudes raw emotive energy in ‘Wrong.’ Emblazoned with ethereal synth effects, defiant keys and harmonious female vocals listeners are compelled by an almost cinematic performance before becoming submerged in a grooving hypnotic beat.

The title track and debut single taken from his ‘Troubles In Paradise’ EP was released back in August, teasing a flavour of what’s yet to come. Along with ‘Wrong’ and ‘Paradise Circus’, the three-track body of work is proving to be one of Hozho’s most anticipated releases to date.

We took a few moments of Hozho’s time to find out more about his latest single ‘Wrong’ and the EP ‘Troubles in Paradise’

‘Wrong’ has an emotive music video to accompany the track. Can you share some insight into the story behind the video? And your involvement in the creative process?

I developed the story of this music video with my good friend Ramon, who was the director. Breakup is the main theme of the’Troubles In Paradise’ EP which includes 3 tracks, each one representing a different stage at the end of a relationship. The idea of the music video was imagined from the story of the EP. In ‘Wrong,’ which is the third and final track of the EP, we are facing the "end of the end", so to speak - the realization that no matter how hard we try, the end is inevitable.

However, we didn't want the music video to show the typical cliché breakup. We wanted it to be something deeper, which also involved the topic of mental health, and a little bit of my story and evolution as an artist. I think that was well represented, obviously in a metaphorical way. You can also notice that along with the music video some easter eggs appear, not only from the past (like the orange guy and the reference to my song Honey Trap) but also for the future, but I want it to remain a mystery for now.
Fun fact: I'm one of the plague doctors featured in the video.

From the ‘Troubles In Paradise’ EP, is there a track that you feel most connected to and why?

In fact, I feel connected with the 3. I feel that if I removed one of them, the EP wouldn't make sense because as I already mentioned, each one of them has an important role in the message I wanted to convey. However, there are moments when I feel more connected with one than the others. For example, I feel more connected to ‘Troubles In Paradise’ if I'm playing it at a show, because it's more like a rave sound. If I am at home, in a more chill and thoughtful moment, I might prefer to listen to ‘Wrong’ which is a more introspective song.

To anyone who hasn’t yet checked out the new EP, how would you describe the overall sound of the 3-track collective?

For me it's more important that people understand the message than the music itself. If we talk about sound, we realize that each track on the EP is different in its own way, especially ‘Wrong’ which differs a lot from the compositions of ‘Troubles In Paradise’ and ‘Paradise Circus.’ For those who haven't heard the new EP, I would say to view it as a trilogy, in which each track is different but, in the end, you have to listen to all of them to understand the message. ‘Wrong’s music video can help to better understand the story.
