Critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Johnny Flynn is set to release the soundtrack for the forthcoming film ‘The Score’, in which he also stars, through EMI Records on the 2nd of September.

The film weaves Johnny’s own songs into the story, and alongside long-time collaborators Joe Zeitlin and Adam Beach, he has re-recorded new versions, featuring the vocals of his co-stars Will Poulter and Naomi Ackie.

While some of the tracks have been released before, many of them are making their recorded debut on this record, having been part of his live repertoire for a while. One such song is ‘Through the Misty with You’, the first track to be released from the soundtrack. A slow, bluesy love ballad, it features vocals from Johnny and his sister Lillie Flynn building into a brooding emotional crescendo. Listen Here

"Making the music for ‘The Score’ has been a weird and wonderful journey” Johnny explains. “I was handed the script with the songs already in it by Ben Pullen (producer) and Malachi (Smyth, Director). It was a process of working with Ben and Malachi to see how the music would integrate in the film…My vision was to re-record the songs with a totally different feel and build them around the character’s emotional worlds and Malachi was so collaborative in bringing it all together. Working with Naomi and Will was so fun because their energy fed into the reinterpretation of the songs.

“It’s interesting to me to hear the songs in such a new context and feels fitting that the songs get to continue their journey - in some cases - 15 or more years since they were written. I always feel like they don’t really belong to me anyway, so I love seeing them serve this story”

‘The Score’ also marks a continuation of Flynn’s composition work, following soundtracks for film and TV including A BAG OF HAMMERS and DETECTORISTS and music for theatre productions including a period instrument score for AS YOU LIKE IT at The Globe and TRUE WEST in the West End. "

Writer/Director Malachi Smyth brings his directorial feature debut ‘THE SCORE’ to UK cinemas on September 9th courtesy of Republic Film Distribution. A character driven genre-bending musical heist inspired by traditional Hollywood gangster movies and the French New Wave, the film centres around two amateur criminals who are hoping their next mission ‘THE SCORE’ will change the men’s lives for good. ‘THE SCORE’ is produced by Matthew James Wilkinson and Ben Pullen with executive producers Nick Angel and Johnny Flynn.

Starring Johnny Flynn (STARDUST, BEAST), Will Poulter (MIDSOMMAR, DETROIT), Naomi Ackie (STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKY WALKER, LADY MACBETH) and Lydia Wilson (STAR TREK BEYOND, ABOUT TIME). ‘THE SCORE’ combines Smyth’s unique script with songs written and performed by Johnny Flynn alongside other cast members, (as new recordings for the film), making for a bold and refreshing watch set to intrigue arthouse film, crime thriller and Flynn fans alike.
