There’s a part of me that never sleeps
I hear you crying, darling, in my dreams

So reveals Nashville raised singer-songwriter Lauren Minear as she introduces herself with the opening lines of her debut single ‘Soul Tied’. A moving, keyboard-lead torch song to motherhood that heralds Lauren’s distinctive soul-laced folk pop, the single is set for release on 29 April.

Steeped in the vulnerability of Nashville soul, hers is the real deal; tender and emotive and yet raw and brutally honest songwriting in the lineage of Joni Mitchell, Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch. Like these women, Lauren wears her heart on her sleeve as she explores the corners of love through a fragile lens of self awareness, evoking the likes of Anais Mitchell, Taylor Swift and Natalie Merchant.

Born in Manhattan, Lauren’s family moved to Nashville where she grew up, spending her formative years sharing her parent’s love of Brooks & Dunn, KD Lang, Garth Brooks and Patsy Cline; as well as being immersed in both the sounds coming from the country music radio stations they tuned into on their regular drives from the city to New Orleans to visit her grandparents and the southern soul there, radiating out of The Big Easy.

Memorizing songs by Faith Hill, Amy Grant, Mariah Carey and Shania Twain, and with Nashville songwriting seemingly steeped in her blood, Lauren penned her first song ‘Daddy’s Little Girl’ at the tender age of 14, and soon found herself interning on Music Row at Major Bob Music, at Sony ATV Publishing, and in the studio with Steve Earle as well as performing locally and recording an EP with George Marinelli (guitar player for Bonnie Raitt).

Now a Mother of two little boys and again living in New York, “I’ll always be a New Yorker at heart”, and with Madi Diaz, Brandi Carlile, Allison Russell and YEBBA on the stereo, Lauren’s journey has been far from just musical; her life has given her a rich and varied tapestry of experiences from which to draw as a songwriter. Along the way there have been stints in investment banking, yoga, mental health, and social work; all opportunities for her to observe and reflect on the human condition. She sees music as spiritual therapy and an extension of her healing work in private psychotherapy practice.

That, and becoming a mother ...
Heart, home, body, soul
Will never be the same
I wouldn’t change it
You rearranged me

A transformative journey that has given her confidence and power, Lauren’s artistry and song-writing skills were rekindled when she became a mother, a process that changed both her perception of the world and of herself (“to me, being a mother is caring deeply for something outside of yourself, be it a child, your neighbours, or the earth”), and one which brought her back to music, creativity and to finding pure joy in the moment.

A tender, post-falling-in-love song, ‘Soul Tied’ celebrates what it takes to be a mother and the invisible bond between mother and child.

The simple ties that bind
We’re tangled up, entwined for all of time
We’re soul tied

Lauren is currently finishing work on her debut album ‘Invisible Woman’, which will be released later this year.
