Dirty Heads team up with global music sensation Jon Z To Remix 'Vacation'
13 August 2021
Today, Dirty Heads, the reggae-influenced band redefining the sound of Southern California since 2003, dropped a bilingual Spanish/English remix for “Vacation,” the global smash song behind the #VacationTransition TikTok challenge, with Latin music sensation Jon Z titled “Vacation Y Vacaciones,” via Better Noise Music.
Extending the celebrations of the song’s global success, Puerto Rican trap artist Jon Z wanted to add his own spin to the song, adding a fresh take that further includes the worldwide Spanish-speaking audience who have enthusiastically participated in the social media phenomenon over the past few months. “Vacation Y Vacaciones (featuring Jon Z)” is now available for streaming and download here. Both acts also teamed up for a music video for the new collaboration, also released today, creating a visual look at the new carefree and inclusive sentiments that the track has taken on around the world.
Excited about the remix and reconnecting with fans on the road, lead singer Jared Watson said, “We were stoked to have Jon Z jump on the track and add his own style to it. And we hope to get down to Mexico and South America to play some live music as soon as we can.”
Jon Z added, “I am so happy I was able to collaborate with Dirty Heads. They are genuine to their artistic style, and we share a similar vibe. I hope everyone has as fun listening to this as we did making it together”
The band’s profile has significantly increased in international markets, with the organic viral moment of “Vacation” and its accompanying #VacationTransition challenge trend increasing streams for the original track across all platforms by 90%, with an increase of over 250% on Amazon alone, and earlier this year an increase of over 800% on Spotify. The song’s massive success has earned it introductions on over 36 viral international playlists, viral and pop playlists with massive global reach, 144% increase of Shazams, entry on the Shazam Global Top 200 Chart and TikTokDaily, Weekly & Trending videos, and all-time top track charts. It entered Instagram’s top 10 list worldwide this spring after consistently charting on Reels’ most used sounds globally. As further evidence of the song’s striking success, the track has reached over 4 BILLION consumption plays across all social platforms since January 2021.
Last month, the band released a reflective compilation album The Best of Dirty Heads to celebrate their career success with seven Top 20 hits over seven studio albums, alongside a new collaboration with legendary drummer Travis Barker and Aimee Interrupter of The Interrupters called “Rage,” giving fans a taste of what’s to come on their next full–length project as Billboard noted that the collaboration, “gives the band's signature reggae rock sound a new gritty punk flavor.”
The band is bringing their impressive catalogue to life on stage this summer and are currently in the midst of a North American tour with co-headliners Sublime with Rome on their “High and Mighty” tour. Full list of tour dates are available below and tickets are available now at highandmightytour.com. ABOUT DIRTY HEADS
Since 2003, Dirty Heads have mixed hip-hop, reggae, and rock to create a unique sound that both fully embodies their Southern California roots and resonates with audiences around the globe.
The band’s global appeal reached new heights in 2021, when their hit “Vacation” (originally released in 2017) garnered over four billion views and streams across social media via the ubiquitous #VacationTransition challenge that originated organically with users on TikTok. The song, with an increase of 850% in consumption on Spotify in the past year, took on a new life in many ways, introducing Dirty Heads to new international fans by the millions. They celebrated with a series of remixes and new renditions of the track to kick-off summer 2021, and by announcing their The Best of Dirty Heads album, arriving July 16, 2021 via Better Noise Music, which will take a retrospective look at their career thus far.
Nearly twenty years ago, the group formed when punk rocker Dustin Bushnell (aka Duddy B) asked his friend, rapper Jared Watson (aka Dirty J), to collaborate on a project that would focus on positive vibes and infectious grooves. Watson added singing to his vocal skills, and with percussionist Jon Olazabal, an acoustic trio version of Dirty Heads began playing shows and building an audience.
In 2008, their acclaimed album Any Port in a Storm, with a deluxe edition following in 2010. The deluxe version featured the track "Lay Me Down" with special guest Rome Ramirez of Sublime with Rome. The song reached number one on Billboard's Alternative Songs in May 2010, and nine weeks later it established a record as the song with the longest stint atop the chart for an independently released title.
They followed up two years later with Cabin by the Sea and later recorded an acoustic version of the title track. This, in turn, led to an entire acoustic album in 2013 called Home: Phantoms of Summer. Dirty Heads' next album, Sound of Change, would prove to be a breakthrough for the now-veteran band, debuting at number eight on the Billboard Top 200 while topping the Independent and Alternative Albums charts upon its May 2014 release.
Building on their renewed success, Dirty Heads enlisted a bevy of industry hitmakers to work on their self-titled 2016 follow-up, which -- thanks to its mainstream appeal -- again charted high on the Billboard Top 200. The following year saw the band drop its sixth studio album, Swim Team, featuring the singles "Vacation," in its original form, and "Staloney."
Inspired by current events and the fan interpretations of their music in the #VacationTransition challenge, the band is hard at work on new music. Their sound has evolved and they will tease the result of their new creative energy on The Best Of compilation, including a new collaboration with Travis Barker and Aimee Interrupter of The Interrupters. They’ll also bring that energy to stage this summer on their co-headlining “High and Mighty” Tour with Sublime with Rome.
