Fuego, the fiery collaboration between rising star Steven Malcolm and dancehall legend Shaggy, is a ferocious blending of genres and attitudes, and sees this unique artist taking a step forward in his quest to meld American swagger and Carribean heat.
The song highlights Malcolm’s Jamaican roots with reggae influences, and features Latino-inspired guitars, all held together with a trap beat which places Malcolm firmly on the pulse of the latest hip hop trends.
The cinematic video, which reads more like a short film, sees Malcolm and Shaggy navigating the dark world of a city’s underbelly, stopping in at a nightclub to pay off a crime boss and making a speedy getaway before she realises that they have double crossed her.
A stylish video, the camerawork is as cutting and epic as the track it is laid over, and the video balances narrative and performance to perfection, allowing both rappers to take centre stage whilst still giving the storyline time to breath. Malcolm’s performance is dripping with the sort of confidence one might expect from an artist who has 41 million streams and a Dove Award nomination under his belt.
