Middlesbrough's Chris Rea has had an unconventional rise to the top. Now regarded as one of British music's most intelligent and unique voices, it took some time for Chris to truly break through in the UK. Although his exemplary musical output to date is deeply embedded into the framework of the world’s rock 'n' roll DNA, it is safe to say that his presence has been something of a glittering thorn in the side of an industry that has always had him down as a perennial outsider.

Chris Rea released his debut album in 1978, and the single "Fool (If You Think It's Over)" became a huge hit in the US. It would not be until 1989 that he truly broke though in Britain; his 1989 album The Road to Hell went to No. 1 in the UK, and 1991's Auberge followed suit. After overcoming pancreatic cancer, Rea has resumed touring and recording, and 2017 will see him release his 24th studio album, entitled Road Songs for Lovers.
