LAURA MARLING to give an exclusive live performance at hmv Oxford Street, featuring tracks from brand new album SEMPER FEMINA on 7th March.
British singer-songwriter Laura Marling has announced a live performance of her brand new album Semper Femina, at an intimate session at hmv Oxford Street on Tuesday 7th March at 6:00pm. This is an exclusive chance for fans to meet the talented female folk singer who’s redefining the music industry and listen to a sneak peak of singles from her new album ‘Semper Femina’ in hmv’s unique gig setting.
In just a little over nine years, Laura Marling has become one of the most prolific young musicians of a generation. Laura’s talents haven’t gone unrecognised, winning both Brit and NME Awards and receiving countless nominations.
Semper Femina is Laura’s sixth studio album right off the back of her hugely successful album, Short Movie. Semper Femina will be released on March 10th from Laura’s own label More Alarming Records via Kobalt Music Recordings. Recorded in LA in late 2015, and produced by US musician/producer Blake Mills (Alabama Shakes, Jim James), the new album also showcases Laura’s directorial debut with the video for the first fruits of the record and the album’s opening track, Soothing. The inspiration for which was a series of vivid dreams Laura experienced whilst making the album.
An enriching listen, Semper Femina is a typically mature and raw listen that is a devoted exploration of femininity and female relationships, Its loose lyrical thread strings together her keen, freshly observed take on womanhood, and what Laura describes as a particularly ‘masculine time in her life’.
Laura has said of making the new album, ‘I started out writing Semper Femina as if a man was writing about a woman, and then I thought; “it’s not a man, it’s me”
“I don’t need to pretend it’s a man to justify the intimacy, or the way I’m looking and feeling about women. It’s me looking specifically at women and feeling great empathy towards them, and by proxy, towards myself’.
