20 years ago, Time To Say Goodbye (Con Te Partirò) was written especially for the world’s most popular tenor, Andrea Bocelli, and since then has made its everlasting mark on the music world. Not only did it catapult Bocelli to stardom, but it has continued to be performed and recorded countless times, and in various guises, to become one of the biggest-selling and best-loved songs of all time.
To mark the milestone moment, Bocelli is re-recording the song for a special 20th Anniversary Edition of his hit album ‘Romanza’ – to be released on Decca Records on 18th November.
Andrea Bocelli comments:
“Twenty years, a generation, the time it takes to conceive a son and raise him to become a man. And yet Romanza seems not to shy away from the passing of time, to the point where in the tracks on the album I recognise, with a thrill and at times deep emotion, the clear reflection of what I was, but also of what I am, the adventure of my life at the time but also at this very moment. It has become the soundtrack of so many lives.”
Considered Andrea’s breakthrough album and the best-selling Italian album in the world, ‘Romanza’ has been re-mastered and boasts 3 bonus tracks including 2 brand new versions of the legendary Time To Say Goodbye (Con Te Partirò) – a lush rendition for voice and orchestra, and an intimate acoustic version with just piano accompaniment.
Time To Say Goodbye (Con Te Partirò) was famously performed by Andrea Bocelli and British soprano Sarah Brightman in 1996 at the final boxing match of light-heavyweight champion Henry Maske. The match, which was broadcast to 21 million viewers worldwide, introduced Andrea to the world stage. To this day it remains amongst the best-selling singles ever having sold over 12 million copies globally. It has been covered by numerous artists and helped launch the careers of singers including Katherine Jenkins and Paul Potts.
Andrea has performed it regularly since then at venues around the world – from New York’s iconic Central Park to Leicester City’s Premier League-winning home game earlier this year. His song has also been used on TV shows as diverse as The Sopranos, Downton Abbey and even Sesame Street, where he duetted with puppet Elmo!
‘Romanza: The 20th Anniversary Edition’ also includes stunning remastered versions of Bocelli’s all-time favourites: Vivere, Vivo Per Lei, Miserere and title track Romanza. He has also re-recorded Il Mare Calmo Della Sera – the beautiful title track from his debut studio album. Plus, the digital version includes an instrumental version of Con Te Partirò and an additional rendition with choir and orchestra.
With over 80 million albums sold worldwide, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and audiences including three presidents of the United States and three popes, this special anniversary edition of ‘Romanza’ – the most celebrated album from the world’s most beloved tenor – is not to be missed.
