André Rieu, AKA ‘The King of the Waltz’, is setting hearts a flutter with his new album ‘Falling In Love’ – to be released on Decca Records on 25th November, ahead of a major UK arena tour with his Johann Strauss Orchestra. Performing some of the world’s favourite love-themed tunes in his unique style, the album will be released alongside a DVD entitled ‘The Flying Dutchman’ which captures the breath-taking spectacle of Rieu’s live shows.
‘Falling in Love’ features beautiful ballads and hits from universally-loved movies, combined with evergreen melodies that have touched the hearts of millions over the last six decades. Romantic classics on the album range from ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ and ‘My Heart Will Go On’ (from ‘Titanic’) to new versions of ‘The Lonely Shepherd’ (the wistful theme heard in ‘Kill Bill’ in 2004) here featuring the original Romanian panflutist Gheorghe Zamfir, and the 1970’s hit ‘Sleepy Shores’ (the theme from the ‘70s TV series ‘Owen, M.D.’).
André Rieu says: “When people come to my concerts they fall in love with each other all over again. Couples are swept off their feet as they dance in the aisles, smiling in each other’s arms. There is no better recipe for love than beautiful music and I want to capture that romance on my new album.”
An undeniable romantic himself, Rieu fell in love with his teenage sweetheart Marjorie and they’ve been happily married for over 40 years. What’s more, 13 couples have found themselves in Rieu’s team – his big ‘Johann Strauss Family’ – proving that work and love can be balanced perfectly well if you are surrounded by this romantic music every day!
A musical phenomenon, André Rieu is unlike anything else in the entertainment world. Along with his Johann Strauss Orchestra, Rieu has created a global revival in waltz music with his spectacular extravaganzas. He has sold over 35 million discs, received 487 Platinum Awards, 271 Gold Awards and is in fact the biggest solo male touring artist in the world – more successful, in ticket sales, than Bruce Springsteen, Coldplay and AC/DC. His onstage charisma and rock-star demeanour make Rieu’s shows the only classical concerts where people literally jump to their feet and dance in the aisles.
André Rieu’s spellbinding musical extravaganzas are captured on a new DVD ‘The Flying Dutchman’ which accompanies the ‘Falling In Love’ album. The two hour-long video specials encapsulate his dazzling shows in which Rieu and his musicians are joined by 100 horses with riders and a corps of trumpeters and percussionists. The DVD also includes three bonus tracks, a ‘making of’ documentary and interviews with André Rieu and his son Pierre.
Rieu and his impressive 60-piece Johann Strauss Orchestra will take their stunning live show to 11 arenas across the UK in December, including two nights at London’s SSE Arena, Wembley. Before then, audiences can experience the Rieu magic in cinemas with a live broadcast of ‘Christmas with André’ in 500 UK cinemas nationwide on 19th November and 27th November. Earlier this year Rieu broke box office records for screenings of his 2016 Maastricht Concert, which took more than £1.4 million at the UK and Ireland cinema box office, to become the highest grossing music concert of all time – beating previous cinema events by One Direction, Ed Sheeran and Take That – proving that Rieu is a true classical rock star!
“Couples rise from the audience and glide down the aisles, lost in the music. Some women waltz alone, still holding on to loved ones gone. Tears fall.” – Mail On Sunday EVENT magazine
