Britain’s most iconic venue, the Royal Albert Hall, is hosting a series of events to celebrate Opera this autumn to allow a new audience an opportunity to enrich themselves in Opera in a laid-back setting. An exclusive concert, An Introduction to British Opera in association with Opera Holland Park, will be taking place followed by a series of Afternoon Tea with Live Opera events throughout October and November this year.
An Introduction to British Opera will bring the best of British Opera to the Royal Albert Hall’s historic Elgar Room. Versatile singers led by acclaimed tenor Ben Johnson and baritone Mark Stone will showcase well-known and best-loved works by Vaughan Williams, Delius and Smyth to highlight the rich creativity of British composers.
The evening of operatic music will be presented by Petroc Trelawney, one of the best known voices on BBC Radio Three. Trelawney commented: “Opera is a much loved British institution but can be intimidating to those looking to explore it for the first time, which is why I am working with the Royal Albert Hall to present the audience with an insightful introduction to British Opera for both old and new fans.
“The opportunity to present at one of our country’s most iconic venues is an absolute privilege. It is set to be a night to remember for the all!”
Following the success of Fleur de Bray’s Afternoon Tea with Opera earlier this year, the Royal Albert Hall is running three shows this autumn headlined by award-winning soprano talents, Fleur de Brey, Katie Coventry and Felicity Hayward. As guests enjoy the eclectic series of performances featuring works including Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Handel’s Xerxes and pieces by Puccini and Gounod, a selection of sandwiches, sweet treats and refreshments will be served in the beautiful Italian restaurant, Verdi.
Lucy Noble, Director of Events at the Royal Albert Hall, commented: “It is a delight to be able to bring some of Britain’s most talented Opera singers to the Royal Albert Hall, and provide our audience with an introduction to this beautiful art form. Through our Opera series, we hope to entice and educate a new-to-Opera audience with the compelling and unforgettable sounds of our stars.”
An exclusive concert, An Introduction to British Opera in association with Opera Holland Park, will be taking place held on 9th October, followed by a series of Afternoon Tea with Live Opera events will which return to the Hall on 8th and 22nd October, and 26th November this year.
