The 2016 Hyundai Mercury Prize Awards is proud to announce a very special performance from the forthcoming David Bowie play Lazarus as part of the live awards show on September 15th at the Eventim Apollo Hammersmith.

Michael C. Hall (Dexter, Six Feet Under) the principal performer in Lazarus, which opens on November 8th at London’s King Cross Theatre, will perform the song Lazarus from David Bowie’s ★ (Blackstar) album backed by the play’s house band led by Henry Hey.

The show will also feature performances from the shortlisted albums including The 1975, Skepta, Kano, Bat For Lashes, Jamie Woon, Laura Mvula, Michael Kiwanuka, Savages, The Comet Is Coming, and Anonhi.

The live show will take place on September 15th at the Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith and for the first time tickets are available to the general public to watch an incredible line up of artists who have produced the best albums of the last year.

Over the years the awards have had some of the most iconic music stars performing to create unforgettable moments. Shaun Keaveny will host the first part of the show on BBC Red Button and iPlayer from 8 - 9pm and BBC Radio 6 Music coverage starting from 6 pm before handing over to Lauren Laverne for the live televised show on BBC Four at 9pm.

The Hyundai Mercury Prize ‘Albums of the Year’ celebrate and promote the best of UK music, recognising artistic achievement across an eclectic range of contemporary music genres. The 12 albums were chosen based solely on artistic merit by a panel of judges including Jessie Ware, Naughty Boy, Jamie Cullum, Clara Amfo and Jarvis Cocker. From the shortlist of 12 Albums showcased on the night – in the last hour – the last six will be identified and then the Judges will chose the ultimate winner.

The majority of the artists shortlisted have confirmed to perform one track from their shortlisted album. The Hyundai Mercury Prize event allows music fans to experience in one evening memorable performances from the most outstanding British albums of the year.
