Lily Allen is taking a Twitter break to focus on her next album after receiving criticism for her alleged heavy drinking at London's Notting Hill Carnival.

The Smile singer appeared to overindulge on the booze at the annual U.K. street party over the weekend (27-28Aug16) and was pictured drinking a variety of alcoholic drinks before being carried away by her rumoured boyfriend MC Meridian Dan after reportedly passing out.

Lily, who pointedly changed her Twitter handle to Dramatic Collapser, first spoke out to assure fans she was fine and repeatedly defended herself against those questioning her behaviour and her parenting of two daughters Ethel, four, and Marnie, three.

She retweeted a fan who claimed the press wanted her to self-destruct and replied, "That's exactly what they want. But it won't happen.I have a wonderful album coming and my children are healthy."

She then announced she would be taking a break from the social media site to let music from her upcoming fourth album, a follow-up to 2014's Sheezus, speak for itself.

"Anyway, I think I'll steer clear of the internets (sic) for a bit," she added. "This s**t just makes me more determined TBH (to be honest). My music will do the talking soon... Until then tweeps (sic), I'm off grid. Love you all for having my back though, thank you."

However she quickly returned to add a "last thing" disputing a piece published in Wednesday's (31Aug16) edition of The Sun newspaper, which alleged her career and personal life were "in tatters".

"I have been busy recording my fourth solo album and it's very close to being finished," she wrote. "I have postponed its delivery because I want to be on hand to settle my daughter (Ethel) into big school this Sept."

Following the reports of her alleged behaviour at the Carnival, Lily claimed she had been drinking on an empty stomach but was now fine.
