Joe Perry was rushed to hospital on Sunday night (10Jul16) after falling ill during a Hollywood Vampires gig.

The 65-year-old guitarist had been performing with the supergroup, which counts Perry, Johnny Depp and Alice Cooper as members, at the Coney Island Boardwalk.

Social media posts from fans at the gig suggest that Perry looked frail during the band's first song, before he staggered off stage and ducked behind the amp stack. He is then believed to have been treated backstage by emergency medics, with one Twitter user also claiming he was given CPR by a New York City fireman, before being taken to hospital for further treatment.

A New York Police Department spokesperson told ABC News that Perry was initially treated at Coney Island Hospital, where he was listed as being in stable condition, before he was transferred to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.

The nature of Perry's illness is as yet unknown, although TMZ.com claim he allegedly went into cardiac arrest.

The band continued with the gig despite Perry's departure, but frontman Cooper is said to have told the audience: "If you notice one of our brothers is not onstage with us, he was very sick before the show."

Cooper later took to his Twitter page to update fans on the musician's condition, writing: "Thanks to everyone asking about our brother Joe Perry. He is stable right now, with family and is under the best care."

Hollywood Vampires' official account added: "Joe Perry is stable and resting. His brother Vampires and fans wish him a speedy recovery."

The band's next gig is due to take place at Fraze Pavilion in Kettering, Ohio, on Tuesday (12Jul16) but it remains to be seen whether it will take place.

Perry initially found fame as guitarist for Aerosmith before forming the Joe Perry Project. He has since enjoyed success with Hollywood Vampires, whose gigs have been somewhat overshadowed by the divorce drama surrounding Depp's split from Amber Heard, who has accused him of domestic abuse.
