Rugby-playing singer Laura Wright has tackled her biggest performance yet: singing ‘World in Union’ at the opening ceremony of the Rugby World Cup in a live performance in front of a global audience of millions. Laura’s powerful version of ‘World in Union’ has now been released worldwide as a single on Decca Records.

Almost a decade after winning BBC Radio 2’s Chorister of the Year Award, 25-year-old Laura is a leading figure for the fusion of music and sport and is a regular at major sporting events.

She is the official anthem singer for the England Rugby Team and has been heavily involved in the World Cup launch in the UK including performances at the World Cup trophy tour, rugby captain’s dinner, welcoming ceremony and send off for the England team (alongside Take That and other celebrities) and even scaling the roof of the O2 for a rendition of ‘Jerusalem’ in the world’s biggest projection!

Laura performed ‘Jerusalem’ at Twickenham Stadium too, building excitement among fans before the live TV broadcast of the ceremony. Laura was joined by George The Poet for her performance of ‘World in Union’.

Laura says: “Performing ‘World In Union’, to the world, was an incredibly empowering moment and bringing together all genres of music was something I really loved being a part of. Good luck England!”
