In an interview airing this evening, Free Radio’s Adam Wilbourn spoke to Jess Glynne about her throat surgery, X Factor rumours and how it felt to have ‘her own’ number one!

On having to have surgery:
I have to be honest with you, it’s probably one of the most terrifying things I’ve gone through, it’s pretty traumatic knowing that your instrument that’s your career isn’t working, and you’ve got to have an operation. In every operation there’s a risk, and you don’t know whether it’s gonna… you know, obviously there’s that 95% chance, whatever they say, they can never say 100% you’re gonna be better. But the concern and the worry is the worst thing.

When she couldn’t speak…
I did have that app (that Sam Smith also used when he had surgery), but I didn’t really like it because it wasn’t loud enough, so I just used a whiteboard!

Having her own number 1:
It was the best feeling ever, I have to be honest. Having your own number 1, I don’t know how to explain how that felt. You collaborate with people, especially with ‘Rather Be’ you know, I didn’t write the song it wasn’t for my record, it was theirs that I sang on and we collaborated on. ‘My Love’, the same thing, you know, it wasn’t for me, it was for him. To have a song that’s really close to home, something that means a lot to you, it’s part of your art and your album, and it goes to number one… it was the most emotional I’ve been in my whole career to date! I was just in tears, I was so overwhelmed.

Her involvement in The X Factor:
Adam Wilbourn: I read recently that you’re gonna be involved in The X Factor this year, judges houses, you’re helping out Nick Grimshaw. How much are you looking forward to being involved with that.
Jess: Well, let me tell you this. I’m not actually… that’s not 100%. I’m just gonna say that! [laughs]. I don’t know whether that’s actually happening or not, but, if it does happen, I am SO excited! The first I actually even heard of it, was from gossip, so I’m just gonna say, don’t take that as a serious thing as it’s not 100% confirmed.
