This weekend UK country hit makers the Shires met one of their heroes, Glastonbury Festival's Michael Eavis. Michael took time on Saturday to meet the band after they performed for his event: Glastonbury Extravaganza, held in the grounds of Glastonbury Abbey, to thank local residents for their support of the festival.
The Shires stated: "Michael is a huge hero of ours as we love Glastonbury. We’ve been going for years and had always dreamed of playing. We finally made our Glastonbury debut this year and then Michael decided to also book us to play at Glastonbury Extravaganza, supporting Ray Davies!"
The Shires album Brave also jumped significantly in the Official UK Album Chart on Friday, after a series of TV, radio and online appearances including ITV’s Lorraine, The Wright Stuff and Fubar Radio, contributed to a dramatic lift in sales of their album, which shot up 48 places in the chart, landing at number 24.
Following their remaining summer shows, which include Farm Fest and BBC Radio 2’s Live in Hyde Park, The Shires tour the UK in October, with performances across the UK and the tour beginning at Bedford Corn Exchange on 1 October and culminating in a headline show at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire on 24 October.
