This week sees the reissue of the seminal album Sticky Fingers, featuring five previously unreleased bonus tracks. The Rolling Stones have allowed the world a small glimpse at the wealth of rarities that will be including in the brand new deluxe package ahead of release.

Part of the album booklet features a copy of the original letter sent from Mick Jagger to Andy Warhol in 1969, commissioning the now infamous artwork for Sticky Fingers. In the forthright and nonchalant brief Jagger pre-empts the artist’s creative tendencies, and alludes to the difficulties that come with reproducing complex designs, but leaves it in Warhol’s ‘capable hands’. Of course all warnings were ignored by Warhol who’s working zip design was expensive, tricky to duplicate and even scratched records, but nevertheless fulfilled its role and became one of the most recognised album covers of all time.

Additionally a candid behind-the-scenes print of Mick Jagger from the original Sticky Fingers photoshoot will be included for the first time. Shot by David Montgomery in 1971.

Sticky Fingers has been repeatedly hailed as one of the Stones’ all time great albums, capturing their trademark combination of swagger and tenderness in a superb collection. It continued the incredible outpouring of creative energy that had produced 1968’s Beggars Banquet and Let It Bleed in 1969. After Sticky Fingers, the Stones’ relocation to the south of France led to the double album masterpiece Exile On Main St. The highly acclaimed Sticky Fingers showcased the ever more inventive song writing of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and formidable guitar licks from Mick Taylor.

Sticky Fingers will be released on 8 June in a variety of formats via Universal Music and is available to pre order now.
