Lianne La Havas 'Unstoppable' video
13 May 2015
Lianne La Havas made a huge breakthrough with her Top 5 debut album ‘Is Your Love Big Enough?’ which sold 200,000 copies and won Album of the Year at iTunes as well as Barclaycard Mercury Prize and Ivor Novello Best Album nominations. Now the 25-year-old London-based singer-songwriter will release her new single ‘Unstoppable’ which impacts on June 1st.
Produced and co-written by Adele / FKA twigs collaborator Paul Epworth and featuring Ninja Tunes trio The Invisible, ‘Unstoppable’ is a song that Lianne wrote to help to repair a relationship that she had ended.
“It represents having a new phase of understanding in our relationship,” she says. “My ex-boyfriend showed me a lot about astronomy, so Paul and I wanted to find some way to relate galactic celestial speak to this love story to support its unconventional and multi-faceted nature.”
‘Unstoppable’ is already quickly gaining momentum with radio highlights including Annie Mac’s Hottest Record on Radio 1, Jo Whiley’s New Favourite Thing on Radio 2, and Record of the Week at 6 Music. After famously making her TV debut on Later… with Jools Holland in 2011, Lianne returned to the show last night with a stunning performance of ‘Unstoppable’ which can be revisited here:
‘Unstoppable’ is taken from Lianne La Havas’s eagerly anticipated second album ‘Blood’ which follows on July 31st. ‘Blood’ is an album that was inspired by Lianne’s family heritage, which is part Jamaican and part Greek. Once touring for her debut album came to a close, she headed to Jamaica with her mother for a holiday which evolved into an experience of self-discovery. Lianne enjoyed emotional reunions with long-lost relatives; embraced Kingston’s clubs; and even jammed in front of her family for the first time during a session with legendary dancehall / reggae producer Stephen McGregor.
In addition to McGregor, Aqualung’s Matt Hales returns after his contributions to Lianne’s debut, most notably on ‘Wonderful’ which he and Lianne co-wrote with Disclosure’s Howard Lawrence. Another highlight comes with the autobiographical album centrepiece ‘Green and Gold’ which was co-produced and co-written by Jamie Lidell, while Alicia Keys and India.Arie producer Mark Batson also lent his talents to the album.
Lianne will build towards the launch of ‘Blood’ with a special international run of intimate album preview shows. The tour begins at the Komedia in Brighton on May 18th before heading to London’s historic Wilton’s Music Hall on May 19th, the People’s Palace in Amsterdam on May 27th and Berlin’s Gruner Salon on May 28th. Tickets and further information will be available at www.liannelahavas.com.
Further live shows will follow throughout with the summer with two huge outdoor shows in Swansea and Manchester as special guest to Paolo Nutini. Her summer festival appearances commence with Glastonbury, and will be followed by the philosophy and music event How The Light Gets In as well as Latitude, Gentlemen of the Road (curated by Mumford & Sons) and Bestival.
