John Travolta “rehearsed” caressing Idina Menzel’s face before the Oscars, his rep has confirmed.

The Pulp Fiction actor caused a stir at Sunday’s ceremony when he took to the stage with the Let It Go singer to present a gong. During their moment, the 61-year-old repeated stroked the singer’s chin and face. While the bizarre behaviour set tongues wagging, John’s spokesperson has now revealed Idina and John had came up with the idea ahead of time.

“It was rehearsed in total," the rep told People magazine. "John Travolta loved working with Idina Menzel. John had a great time at the Oscars because his wife, Kelly Preston, and his daughter, Ella, were in attendance with him."

The two stars were paired together after John infamously mispronounced Idina’s name when introducing her performance at last year’s ceremony. In his gaff he called her Adele Dazeem, but the 43-year-old took it all in her stride and was able to perform the hit song from Frozen without error.

And this year, Idina relished the chance to team up with John and have fun.

“Surprise! That was so much fun. Thank you John Travolta for being a good sport. What an honor to be invited again. #lifeisgood.(sic)" she wrote on Twitter after the ceremony.

However Idina wasn’t the only lady that John got up close and personal with at this year’s Oscars.

On the red carpet, the Grease actor sneaked up behind Avengers actress Scarlett Johansson and planted a kiss on her cheek while wrapping an arm around her waist. Her bemused reaction has spawned hundreds of memes all over the Internet.
