King Coffey, the drummer for Butthole Surfers, is recovering in hospital after being hit by a car while loading for a show in Austin, Texas last Friday.

Coffey was preparing to play at Trailer Space Records in Austin and was unloading for the show.

Coffey was about to play a showcase set with his own trio USA/Mexico with members of Same Sac and The Cherubs when the accident occurred.

The drummer was carrying is equipment across Rosewood Avenue in Austin when the driver of the car hit him. He was taken to nearby Brakenridge Hospital and treated for rib and wrist injuries. He also received 10 stitches to the head.

Texas-based Coffey has been Butthole Surfers drummer 1983. He band had formed in San Antonio, Texas in 1981. He also had his own band Drain from 1992-1997.
