Conor O’Brien aka Villagers makes a welcome return to the Barbican Hall on 1 May 2015, in what will be his biggest London headline show to date.
This follows his appearance last summer as part of the line-up for In Dreams: David Lynch revisited (a live homage to the songs and music from David Lynch’s films) and his appearances in 2013 as part of the line-ups for Other Voices at Wilton’s Music Hall, the Barbican’s Nico Muhly curated marathon weekend A Scream And An Outrage and Beck: Song Reader Live. In May’s headline show, Villagers present material from the new album Darling Arithmetic, out on Domino on 13 April 2015, as well as classic Villagers tracks.
The follow-up to Conor O’Brien’s debut, Becoming a Jackal, and its successor, Awayland - both hugely acclaimed and Mercury-nominated – Darling Arithmetic is a breathtakingly beautiful, intimate album entirely about love and relationships.
The album’s title deriving from the notion that, “Arithmetic is the basis of all mathematics, and ‘darling’ is a term of endearment, it comes from that feeling of your loved ones being the basis of everything.”
Written, recorded, produced and mixed by O’Brien at home - the loft of a converted farmhouse that he shares in the coastal town of Malahide to the north of Dublin – the material reveals an artist at the peak of his already considerable song-writing powers.
