Bobbi Kristina Brown and Nick Gordon are not officially married, her father says.
The 21-year-old daughter of the late Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown revealed to fans in a Twitter post on January 9, 2014 that she and Nick had tied the knot – causing widespread surprise as Whitney had viewed him like a son.
But according to Bobby, who turns 46 on February 5, their union was never made legal.
“To correct earlier reports, Bobbi Kristina is not and has never been married to Nick Gordon,” Bobby’s attorney, Christopher Brown, said in a statement to Access Hollywood.
The lawyer also added that they are “currently investigating the events that led to the hospitalisation of Bobbi Kristina” amid reports that drugs may have played a part. She was found unconscious in a bath tub at the weekend and remains in hospital.
Bobbi Kristina's family have reportedly told TMZ that after a second search of her house, several items – believed to be drugs – were seized by police.
This comes as news broke that the friend who helped Nick revive Bobbi Kristina upon finding her floating face-down in the bathtub of her Roswell, Georgia, home has previously been arrested for possession of illegal drugs.
Max Lomas was arrested on January 14 after reportedly forcibly drugging and holding girlfriend Danyela Bradley against her will, TMZ reports.
Police allegedly found a significant amount of various drugs and a firearm and arrested him for possessing drugs with intent to distribute.
Bobbi Kristina has been in a medically-induced coma since she was found unconscious on Saturday.
While she was initially hospitalised at nearby North Fulton Hospital, she has now been transferred to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia – one of the top facilities specialising in neurology.
However, TMZ reports that the move did not go over well with all members of her family, with the Houston and Brown clans at war over her treatment.
The website reports that the two families are “bickering over who gets access to the part of the hospital where Bobbi Kristina is receiving treatment”.
A source explains to TMZ: “The Houston family is sick of the Brown family acting up, as they always do.”
While it had previously been reported by CNN that Bobbi Kristina had “opened and closed her eyes” several times since her hospitalisation, doctors have reportedly told her family “not to read too much” into it.
In a new statement released by Bobby, he asked for privacy during this difficult time.
“Please allow for our family to deal with this matter and give Bobbi Kristina the love and support she needs at this time,” it read.
