Demi Lovato thinks you have to “allow yourself to reach new milestones.”

The Skyscraper singer always tries to share positive messages with her fans through her music and correspondence on social networking sites. And on Wednesday, the 22-year-old was clearly in the mood to motivate her followers after overcoming hurdles in her own life.

“My mind wanted to quit during my workout today but my body kept fighting and I was able to surpass what I thought were my limits,” she wrote on Twitter. “Sometimes you have to ALLOW yourself to reach new milestones when your mind wants to quit. Keep pushing yourself. Your spirit deserves it.”

While Demi was initially referring to health and fitness, she soon turned it into a general pep talk on striving to be your best in all aspects of life. While some of the messages used all of the 140 characters allowed, one of her posts was much more succinct.

“Quit being a quitter,” she added before retweeting a post from the Buddy Project which read “@ddlovato Don't ever give up on things you want to achieve. If you want something so badly then you can achieve it eventually.”

Demi has struggled with her demons in the past, particularly with food, and no doubt uses the motivational quotes as a mantra to keep on track. But she admitted at the end of last year that remaining healthy is a constant struggle.

“It's been difficult. I almost went back to rehab for my eating disorder last summer," she revealed to Fitness magazine in December. "I was obsessing over food and terrified of it at the same time. Wilmer [Valderrama, boyfriend] noticed and called me out on it, which was a relief. I was done being afraid of food and so tired of overeating and not knowing why I did it. Now I'm on a structured meal plan. I eat four small meals and two snacks a day. It's teaching me portion control."
