Iggy Azalea “finds it patronising” she is being schooled on her knowledge of Black culture.
The Australian rapper has been engaged in an ongoing Twitter feud with fellow female emcee Azealia Banks, after Azealia accused her musical peer of appropriating Black American culture.
Since then many notable hip hop artists have offered their opinion on the matter and A Tribe Called Quest legend Q-Tip even spelled out rap history to Iggy via tweets.
And the songstress is annoyed some folks believe she knows nothing about the origin of hip hop.
“most people learn every and anything they can about the subjects they are passionate about, I'm no different (sic),” Iggy wrote on Twitter Monday.
“i find it patronising to assume i have no knowledge of something I'm influenced by, but I've also grown up with strangers assuming that.”
Iggy isn’t allowing all the controversy to get to her though.
Instead, the star chooses to get plenty of rest while others speak on the topic.
“so its completely fine and I'm used to it by now. i don't lose any sleep over it,” Iggy noted.
“im also not going to sit on twitter & play hip hop squares with strangers to somehow prove i deserve to be a fan of or influenced by hiphop. i would have to be an idiot or incredibly bored to think that would change anyones already cemented opinion of me. I'm neither. how you feel about me blending musical genres together doesn't bother me, no one is making you support or buy pop rap albums.”
She also thanked will.i.am and Lupe Fiasco for supporting her.
