John Otway is nothing if not authentic. Rock And Roll’s Greatest Failure truly believes in what he’s doing – and his Christmas single is no exception.
To film OK Father Christmas, Otway took himself and his beloved Sinclair C5 off to Lapland.
He may have traded in the traditional sleigh for Clive Sinclair’s calamitous creation but the snow, the huskies, the reindeer, even the Northern Lights...all the real thing.
The video is released via YouTube on Sunday 7th while the single itself, the first track on a new four track EP, is available for download from December 14th.
Produced by multi-Grammy Award winner Chris Birkett, OK Father Christmas rounds off an extraordinary year for Otway. His film, Otway The Movie, was shown at the Cannes Film Festival and screened at cinemas around the UK as well as across the pond. It was also released on DVD and more live dates were performed than many would even think possible.
The new video perpetuates Otway’s manic visual career. Directed by Steve Barker, the man behind the movie, It may come as a surprise even to some of his most loyal fans, many who actually appear on screen.
A wildly uplifting dance track it lends credence to the adage of working with animals and children (though no children were actually involved – only by proxy and waiting for presents).
The four tracks comprise: OK Father Christmas, Middle Of Winter, Rockin’ With the Reindeer, The Snowflake Effect.
But, as with all good Christmas stories, there’s a cautionary note. The Sinclair C5 had to be abandoned in Lapland, it was just too expensive to fly it back. Luckily it was a spare but, don’t forget, a C5 is not just for Christmas...
