Citizens! have announced details of the release of the first track from their forthcoming second album out Spring 2015 on Kitsuné / Sony Red.
Lighten Up, released digitally through Kitsuné / Sony Red on December 1st 2015, was recorded as part of the album sessions with producer Laurent d’Herbecourt (who collaborated on Phoenix’s last album).
The track will be launched with a stunning interactive video by acclaimed directors Focus Creeps (who made Are You Mine? by the Arctic Monkeys and Easy Easy by King Krule) which captures both the insanity and boredom of the band’s life on tour; sometimes mundane and at other times electric and exhilarating. The interactive experience allows the user takes control of the video – viewers are able to tap along to the rhythm of Lighten Up on their smartphone or keyboard and chose different interpretations of the track.
The number of beats tapped throughout the song will then allow viewers to unlock exclusive content such as live broadcast, tracklistings, premieres, etc.
The track is available now to download and the Lighten Up interactive experience will be live on the band’s official website on the same day.
Citizens! will also shortly announce details of their second album – it follows their Alex Kapranos produced debut, Here We Are, which was released in May 2012.
Having recently played a sold-out show at London’s Village Underground, the band will play a London show at XOYO on Thursday April 16 before heading to Europe for a short run of shows.
