Jennifer Lopez believes her entourage is “a lot” for her romantic partners to deal with.
The 45-year-old actress and singer is known for her high-profile romances, famously ending marriages to waiter Ojani Noa, dancer Cris Judd and singer Marc Anthony, and also calling off an engagement to Ben Affleck.
In a new interview with US newswoman Hoda Kotb about her book True Love, the New York Post reports Jen admits her relationships with Marc and Ben in particular may have been affected by her over-the-top lifestyle.
“There’s a lot of people in my life and that’s hard,” she explained. “There’s people in the house. There’s hair and makeup. It’s a lot, I think, for someone to deal with.”
Jennifer is regularly accompanied by her manager, Benny Medina, trainer Tracy Anderson and a team of stylists.
With so many people swarming her constantly, she sees how it can put additional strain on her relationships.
“Forget about all the outside stuff, being judged, being under scrutiny in the relationship… I guess that adds in… but I think they would say that [the entourage] was a big part of their discomfort, if there was any,” she said.
The star shares six-year-old twins Max and Emme with Marc. The couple split three years ago, and she admits the most difficult part was explaining it to the kids.
“I remember like maybe after Marc wasn’t in the house for about eight months, Max saying something because my dad came over,” she recalled.
“It was so painful… I go, ‘That’s my daddy,’ and he goes, ‘My daddy left me.’ I said ‘No, baby, your daddy didn’t leave you. You know how my daddy goes home? Your daddy goes home, too.’ You’re just scrambling at that point. What can you say to a three-year-old?” she asked.
The star also said she now attends therapy and is committed to “working” on herself. And she’s come to the conclusion it’s OK if she doesn’t get everything right the first time around.
“You have to face yourself sometimes, like OK, seriously, everything is not going perfect, what are you doing wrong? Me, not you, me,” she said.
