Ellie Goulding is apparently "freaking out" about the thought of having kids.

The 27-year-old singer is currently dating British musician Dougie Poynter, who found fame in boyband McFly.

Recently her beau addressed the topic of starting a family. He writes kids' books with bandmate Tom Fletcher, who has six-month-old son Buzz, and revealed he is excited at the prospect of fatherhood.

It's thought the 26-year-old's comments sparked a negative reaction from his girlfriend.

"Ellie totally freaked out when she heard that Dougie had been speaking publicly about having babies," a source claimed to British magazine Star.

"She's told him that she isn't anywhere near ready to be a mom, and that it's far too soon to even think about it."

The musical duo were first linked earlier this year and they seemed to confirm their relationship in the summer to dispel rumours Ellie was dating Rita Ora's ex Calvin Harris.

Despite the fledgling romance, Dougie apparently thinks it wasn't strange to mention the idea of kids.

"Dougie doesn't think that he spoke out of turn by mentioning that he'd like to be a dad," the insider continued.

"It's been a bit of a sore point between the two of them."

But Ellie might not have too much to worry about. While making his comments, the star added that, currently, taking care of number one is still on the agenda.

“Once I’ve grasped how to look after myself, then it will be time to have a kid," he said.
