Nicki Minaj takes thousands of selfies before she posts a single one.

The Starships hitmaker is known for posting photos of her pouty lips and scantily clad figure on social media. But she admits each picture is carefully curated.

Asked about how many selfies she takes before one goes online, Nicki told US radio programme Power 106: “You’ve got to shoot at least 2,000 selfies to get at least one [to post].”

Nicki’s latest selfies were posted earlier this week on Instagram, featuring the rapper in a black bondage-style dress by Alexander McQueen during the Billboard Music Awards.

“[Love]U,” she wrote in one of the posts, captioning the image with a heart.

Nicki has meanwhile been busy promoting her latest single, Pills N Potions, released in the US on Wednesday.

The summer hit is from her new record, The Pink Print, which she said is an homage to her favourite male artist, Jay Z, who released his first Blueprint album in 2001.

“I think everybody knows how obsessed I am with Jay Z. He’s always been my favourite rapper — him and [Lil] Wayne,” she told Power 106 in portions of the interview released earlier Wednesday.

“He did such a great job of creating this Blueprint brand for male rappers, I felt. And I studied a lot of his blueprint, just in terms of becoming a mogul.”

Nicki hopes she can inspire females in the same way as her rap idol.

“I wanted to do that, I wanted to be like Jay Z. I felt like with what I’m doing, I want female rappers to be able to pattern themselves with what I’ve done one day,” she explained. “And I think the album is soooo classic, it’s gonna feel so good and it will probably be one that female rappers will look to as a ‘pink print’ for years to come.”
